Sales Manager - Boulder, CO

Job Title: Sales Manager

Location: Lee Hill Office, Boulder CO

Division/Department: Sales

Reports to: General Manager & President

Job Summary

The Sales Manager oversees company-wide sales activity to make decisions and manage IPS personnel and communication (people & processes).  The level of professionalism expected of any IPS interaction with clients is ultimately the responsibility of the Sales Manager (SM).

Essential Functions

1)  Training

    a)  New Employees

  • Develop, refine IPS sales training curriculum and protocol
  • Train all new hires from initial contact with lead site visit/ride-along, design/proposal generation, closing, document handoff, final walkthrough
  • Orientate new hires on how sales interfaces with other departments in IPS
  • Salesforce/pipeline management training

    b)  Existing Employees 

  • Communicate to train the sales team on new product offerings
  • Work with CFO to identify new financing/leasing options
  • Communicate to/train sales team on new IPS protocol/proposal tool/pricing

    c)  Continuing Education and Professional Development

  • Work with CFO to set and manage the budget for continuing education for all sales reps
  • Budget/set expectations for individuals to attend business development events
  • Research, offer, recommend new trainings/seminars/webinars to the sales team

2)  Goal Tracking, Performance Monitoring, Process Development, Accountability

    a) Work directly with CFO & President to set/adjust revenue and profitability targets for the team and for individuals

  • Weekly individual meetings to track sales goals and Salesforce tracking
  • Develop a system of coaching/support/action plan for under performance
  • Regular feedback from Reps addressing tools/resources needed to meet goals
  • Salesforce pipeline management (accountability)
  • Systemization of the sales process
  • Report directly to the Management team via Managers meeting with updates on performance/projections/other issues

3)  Business Development – Vision Strategy

    a)  Actively seeking/developing new ways to sell more, at better margins, and more efficiently

  • Constant interface with reps in the field to determine what is/isn’t working
  • Constant interface with the Marketing dept. to determine what is/isn’t working

    b)  Pursuing strategic relationships

  • Hunting down lease/financing/new products to offer
  • Corporate alliances (SPR alliance program, Networking, etc.)
  • Trade alliances/product alliances/other symmetry (builders/contractors/EV retailers etc.)

4)  Profitability and Quality Control

    a)  Ultimately responsible for the projected profitability/feasibility of all jobs sold from point of sale to pre-construction meeting

  • Constant feedback from PMs on the quality/profitability of jobs in install pipeline

    b)  Report directly to Operations to determine if jobs are meeting profitability goals

  • Regular job cost meetings
  • Regular interface with PMs

    c)  Report any necessary changes that the sales team must implement or issues the sales team must address

  • Document control – review and approve contract price modifications, master agreement review for projects XX size and above.  Master agreement modifications require GM & President approval

5)  Work with & tag-team with Team Leader to define and track roles & responsibilities including:

    a)  Representative at all trade shows and events that cannot be staffed or are understaffed

    b)  Speaker/presenter events

    c)  Defining & scheduling weekly sales meetings and sales trainings

    d)  Team support such as:

  • Closer
  • Advisor, mentor, motivator
  • Damage Control, or available for the “I want to talk to your manager” clients
  • Other situations where “managerial” presence could be of value

    Job Requirements and Qualifications

    Education: BA / BS degree; completion of accredited renewable energy continuing education program and MBA program preferred

    Experience: Solar PV sales & business management experience and/or similar contracting business experience

    Service Technician - Boulder, CO

    Job Title: Service Technician

    Job Description

    The IPS Service Technician is a self-starter who has a can-do attitude and the resourcefulness to follow through. The Service Technician is the face of IPS and is expected to represent the company with the professionalism our customers have come to expect. The Service Technician is constantly learning and adapting as the solar PV industry evolves.


    Responsibilities, Duties, & Tasks

    • Receives work instructions from Service Manager and Lead Electrician
    • Complies with safety and quality requirements established by internal policies and external regulations
    • Triage and diagnose technical issues where field investigation is required
    • Testing and commissioning of solar PV systems
    • Identify solutions to resolve technical issues from installations
    • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wire diagrams
    • Perform planned maintenance work
    • Maintains an efficient and clean work area
    • Manage and resolve customer concerns and issues in a timely manner
    • Provide training to customers about system components and maintenance
    • Assist other operations and departments as needed


    Desired Skills and Experience

    • Minimum 1-year experience in a technical role (Field Service preferred)
    • Experience in the use of tools and diagnostic test equipment
    • Ability to properly troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and document system issues
    • Excellent listening skills and ability to communicate effectively in person, by email, and by phone
    • Eagerness to learn and understand the nuances of system design and operation
    • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work independently and on multiple tasks
    • Electrical background preferred
    • Valid driver’s license in good standing
    • Meet physical requirements generally associated with field service repair such as continuous bending and lifting up to 50 pounds
    • Comfortable working on ladders, roofs or varying heights and pitches, attics, basements, crawl spaces
    • Comfortable working in various conditions, indoor and outdoor, during all four seasons in all weather conditions
    • Proficient with basic computer software and online platforms (Word, Excel, Google Docs/Sheets, email)
    • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background screening

    Solar Installer - Boulder, CO


    Job Title: Solar Installer

    Location: Lee Hill Office, Boulder CO

    Division/Department: Install Team

    Reports to: Lead Installer

    Job Description

    Installers are responsible for the hands-on installation of solar electric systems. Duties include planning and completing installations, managing inventory and shop organization, maintaining equipment, and interacting with clients. Installers should be competent with hand-tools and power tools, physically fit, capable of working in all weather conditions, detail-oriented, hard-working, and passionate about solar.

    Responsibilities, Duties, & Tasks

    • Install on time per budgeted hours
    • PV System Layout, Racking/Module Installation and DC Wiring
    • Manage inventory and order materials for upcoming installations.
    • Assist Lead Installer in planning installation schedule; organize, fabricate, and load all materials for a job prior to departure .
    • Interface with clients and prospects.
    • Organize and clean shop; maintain company equipment including vehicles.
    • Participate in company meetings and events.
    • Installers may be asked to assist other departments and share any knowledge or skills they have.
    • Full set of hand tools

    Desired Skills and Experience

    • Education: High School or Equivalent Diploma
    • Training Requirements: Working towards NABCEP Certification; SunPower University
    • Knowledge Requirements: E-mail and internet usage, hand and power tools, construction, OSHA standards and working knowledge of NEC.
    • Experience: Solar, construction trades, framing, engineering
    • Other Information: Full time: Monday-Friday with occasional overtime
