Solar Installer - Boulder, CO

 

Job Title: Solar Installer

Location: Lee Hill Office, Boulder CO

Division/Department: Install Team

Reports to: Lead Installer

Job Description

Installers are responsible for the hands-on installation of solar electric systems. Duties include planning and completing installations, managing inventory and shop organization, maintaining equipment, and interacting with clients. Installers should be competent with hand-tools and power tools, physically fit, capable of working in all weather conditions, detail-oriented, hard-working, and passionate about solar.

Responsibilities, Duties, & Tasks

  • Install on time per budgeted hours
  • PV System Layout, Racking/Module Installation and DC Wiring
  • Manage inventory and order materials for upcoming installations.
  • Assist Lead Installer in planning installation schedule; organize, fabricate, and load all materials for a job prior to departure .
  • Interface with clients and prospects.
  • Organize and clean shop; maintain company equipment including vehicles.
  • Participate in company meetings and events.
  • Installers may be asked to assist other departments and share any knowledge or skills they have.
  • Full set of hand tools

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Education: High School or Equivalent Diploma
  • Training Requirements: Working towards NABCEP Certification; SunPower University
  • Knowledge Requirements: E-mail and internet usage, hand and power tools, construction, OSHA standards and working knowledge of NEC.
  • Experience: Solar, construction trades, framing, engineering
  • Other Information: Full time: Monday-Friday with occasional overtime

Lead Installer - Boulder, CO

 

Job Title: Solar Installer

Location: Lee Hill Office, Boulder CO

Division/Department: Operations team

Reports to: Installation Manager

Job Summary

The Lead Installer is responsible for the successful installation of assigned projects. The Lead Installer works closely with the Install Manager and the Operations Manager to organize, execute, and follow-up on each individual project. He or she supervises a 3-4 person crew of installers and coordinates with electricians to ensure that each installation is completed in a timely manner and meets quality standards. The Lead Installer is also responsible for completing and managing project-related documents.

Essential Functions

Plan Installation:

  • Meet with the Installation Manager weekly to determine the week’s installation schedule and confirm Lead Installer assignments to upcoming projects.
  • Review assigned project details and drawings and organize crew members. Delegate prep work, arrange equipment rental and schedule necessary vehicles. Communicate with other Lead Installers and Operations Manager regarding special scheduling needs.
  • Manage project budgets and set expectations for the crew to ensure jobs come out on-time and on budget.
  • Use cut-sheet to pack vehicle before leaving for the job. Make sure vehicles are clean, organized, gassed up, and stocked with necessary materials.
  • Complete monthly tool checks (individual crew member and crew equipment)
  • Responsible for reporting all maintenance to Install or Ops Manager and to care for assigned vehicle

Supervise Installation:

  • Track all labor hours per job using the As-built. Include prep work, travel, and installation.
  • Ensure all safety and quality standards are met on the job site.
  • Upon arrival at job-site, plan approach, array installation, and electrical work per drawings. Define special conditions and delegate tasks to individual crew members.
  • Communicate with the customer each time prior to arriving or leaving to the job site and arrange entry to the property if necessary.
  • Provide on-site training and coaching when necessary and ensure that the job site is kept neat and left clean.
  • Make all decisions on the job-site. Call the Install Manager or Journeyman Electrician for consultation when necessary. Refer all customer questions to Operations Manager.
  • If additional materials are used or purchased to complete the job, add these to the per-job materials checklist. Delegate the inclusion of all electrical materials to the electrician.
  • Report to Install Manager on a daily basis to report job progress.
  • Inform the Install Manager when the job is ready for inspection. Verify that permit is on-site and accessible and ask Operations Manager if a ladder or specific tool needs to be left for the inspector.
  • Before leaving the job-site: Complete the installation checklist, create a string map, ensure the project site is left neat and take photos before leaving the job.

Follow-Up:

  • Deliver installation checklist to Installation Manager. Deliver per-job materials binders checklist to Install Manager.
  • Complete the As-Built and Labor Hours worksheets within 2 days of successful inspection. Use the Labor Tracking form and the Materials checklist to complete the As-Built.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Lead bi-monthly installation meetings and assist with training initiatives when directed.
  • Test and report on products/materials used.
  • Develop best practices and work with the engineering department to implement maximum efficacy and quality installations.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • Education: Highschool Diploma
  • Desired Knowledge: Jobsite Management, NEC, UBC, NABCEP, and OSHA standards
  • Experience: 1-2 years in the solar contracting industry
  • Other Information: Full-time, Mon-Fri with over-time as necessary

Journeyman Electrician/Foreman - Boulder, CO

 

Job Title: Journeyman Electrician/Foreman

Reports to: Installation Manager

Job Summary

Electricians are responsible for all electrical work involved in the installation of PV solar systems. Working with Installers, electricians are responsible for planning each installation, executing work in a timely fashion, tracking and reporting all project-related time and materials, and ensuring that projects pass inspection. They must be comfortable working on roofs of varying heights and in attics. Electricians should be proficient in bending conduit and have a solid understanding of the NEC. Electricians should be competent with hand and power tools, physically able to mount equipment, capable of working in all weather conditions, detail-oriented, and hard-working.

Essential Functions

  • Planning and preparation for each installation
  • Load materials into vehicles for each project; check vehicle for necessary stocked materials if not working with an apprentice
  • Drive company vehicles to and from job-sites
  • Purchase job materials when necessary
  • Complete all electrical work to meet IPS and NEC standards
  • Complete work on time per budgeted hours
  • Complete work accurately to ensure that project passes electrical inspection the first time
  • Track and report all project-related time, materials, and mileage

PV Service Technician - Boulder, CO

 

Job Title: PV Service Technician

Location: Lee Hill Office, Boulder CO

Reports to: Installation Manager

Job Summary

The PV & Service Technician is responsible for all technical support, troubleshooting and service-related issues. This individual will support all IPS staff including; electricians, installers, sales reps, and operations personnel by providing technical PV expertise. He/she will work closely with the Service Coordinator to execute all necessary service and installation needs.

Essential Functions

  • Technical programming and research for inverter and system electronics.
  • Must have a great understanding of electrical troubleshooting.
  • Must have the ability to use technical instruments to complete extensive troubleshooting and provide real-time reporting documentation.
  • The PV Technician will be responsible to conduct job site walks to gather all necessary information and documentation to complete bid proposals.
  • The PV technician will work directly with the Service Coordinator, Operations Manager and the Installation Manager to complete all required project documentation in a timely manner.
  • Provide technical assistance to the Service Coordinator to develop quotes and parts lists.
  • Complete work according to the scheduled times as planned by IPS personnel in conjunction with the customer.
  • Utilize Service Fusion to track all hours and notes for projects.
  • Billing time to IPS overhead (ie. off-site work) will need to be conducted at the IPS office. This will give us full transparency to align all departments in unison.
  • Transferring all documentation to the Service Coordinator and update Service Coordinator after every service call to ensure the proper steps can be taken to close out projects.
  • Communicate with IPS personnel to review overall workload and schedule priorities.
  • Perform installation work as required by Operations/Install Manager as the service schedule allows.
  • Perform regular operation and maintenance inspection on existing IPS installation.
  • Work with Installation Manager and Service Coordinator to develop service and training documentation to support and develop IPS processes.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree and NABCEP certification
  • Knowledge Requirements: Fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs, Internet and E-mail Usage
  • Experience: Journeyman Electrician or Residential Wireman with 2+ years of experience, and a construction background
  • Other Information: Full Time: Monday-Friday 40 hours a week. *Service Technician position is anticipated to be a part-time position. A 40 hour week will be supplemented by install technician work delegated by the Operations team.

Service Technician - Boulder, CO

Job Description

The IPS Service Technician is a self-starter who has a can-do attitude and the resourcefulness to follow through. The Service Technician is the face of IPS and is expected to represent the company with the professionalism our customers have come to expect. The Service Technician is constantly learning and adapting as the solar PV industry evolves.

 

Responsibilities, Duties, & Tasks

  • Receives work instructions from Service Manager and Lead Electrician
  • Complies with safety and quality requirements established by internal policies and external regulations
  • Triage and diagnose technical issues where field investigation is required
  • Testing and commissioning of solar PV systems
  • Identify solutions to resolve technical issues from installations
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wire diagrams
  • Perform planned maintenance work
  • Maintains an efficient and clean work area
  • Manage and resolve customer concerns and issues in a timely manner
  • Provide training to customers about system components and maintenance
  • Assist other operations and departments as needed

 

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 1-year experience in a technical role (Field Service preferred)
  • Experience in the use of tools and diagnostic test equipment
  • Ability to properly troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and document system issues
  • Excellent listening skills and ability to communicate effectively in person, by email, and by phone
  • Eagerness to learn and understand the nuances of system design and operation
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work independently and on multiple tasks
  • Electrical background preferred
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing
  • Meet physical requirements generally associated with field service repair such as continuous bending and lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Comfortable working on ladders, roofs or varying heights and pitches, attics, basements, crawl spaces
  • Comfortable working in various conditions, indoor and outdoor, during all four seasons in all weather conditions
  • Proficient with basic computer software and online platforms (Word, Excel, Google Docs/Sheets, email)
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background screening
