Independent Power (IPS) has once again made the Solar Power World Online Top Solar Contractors list for 2019, coming in at 29th in the nation on the inaugural Solar+Storage list and 180th in the overall rankings. While IPS has consistently earned recognition for its solar achievements through the publication, this year marks our highest placement yet thanks in part to several prominent installations such as the highest commercial solar power system in the U.S. in Rocky Mountain National Park and an upgraded 2 MW array near the Oasis at Death Valley resort in Southern California—both of which were also recently featured in a Solar Power World article.

“It’s tremendously encouraging for the [IPS] team to receive this kind of recognition from Solar Power World, especially for our solar+storage work,” says Reed Crossley, Marketing Strategist at IPS. “From the very start, we look at increasing the resiliency of each and every system IPS designs and installs by adding storage. The value these technologies unlock for our customers, particularly in the small and mid-sized commercial markets, is simply too great not to include in the solar discussion. We’re thrilled to start seeing the industry and influencers like Solar Power World endorse a similar mindset.”

Solar Power World is the authoritative leader in print and online news and information regarding solar installation, development, and technology. Their “Top Solar Contractors” list is the most widely-recognized listing of solar companies in the U.S. and their engaged online audience is one of the largest in the country. Solar Power World Online was founded in 2011 with the aim of helping U.S. solar contractors, installers, developers, and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) firms grow their businesses and stay informed about the latest industry insights. They’re also just a great group of folks that make everything a little easier for the solar community through their advocacy and available resources.

IPS has been featured on the Top Solar Contractors list nearly every year since the publication’s start, moving up the list for 2019 to 180th nationwide, from 378th in 2018. Founded in 1996, IPS offers a range of solar engineering and contracting services in Colorado, Massachusetts, and Montana and has consulted on a number of challenging energy projects for large commercial customers and the military throughout the U.S. as well as internationally. The Boulder-based company has installed over 15,000 kilowatts of solar power in its 23-year history with over 3,400 kilowatts installed in 2018 alone.

“There’s so much excitement in the industry right now because we’re finally seeing storage technologies becoming not just cost-effective, but valuable additions that enhance the economics of projects in a big way, especially in places like Massachusetts where they’ve launched innovative programs like the SMART program that was the start of utilities seeing the value in storage by incentivizing it, then the ConnectedSolutions Demand Response program that adds tremendous value to home and business storage, and the Clean Peak Standard coming next year,” said Hannah Capshaw, Microgrid Consultant for IPS.

“Robust and resilient systems are very much at the heart of who we are as a company and where our focus will be as we head into the 2020s and celebrate our 25th anniversary in a few years. By then, the growth of the storage market will have far eclipsed the growth we’re seeing today. We’ve been a part of the “solar coaster” since the 90s when both solar and batteries were only used in off-grid construction. It’s exciting for us to take that experience and knowledge and apply it to today’s grid-tied storage systems to increase the resiliency of our communities and electric grid while bringing in new and innovative revenue streams for our customers.”

The staff at IPS is proud to again be featured on the Top Solar Contractors list, but perhaps most thrilled by making the top 30 for combining solar power production with next-level, robust energy storage solutions. We’re also proud to be SunPower Elite Dealers, consistently achieving exceptionally high levels of customer satisfaction and delivering superior solar technologies to our communities. Our designs and installations are done in-house by our engineers, licensed electricians, and certified installers, and each comes with their own industry-leading warranty as proof of our confidence in our services and products.
