Bloomin
From Seed Paper to Solar Energy
Bloomin, the original manufacturer of handmade plantable seed paper, recently had IPS install a 29.61 kW solar power system on the roof of its Boulder, Colorado facility to offset 100% of the company’s electrical usage.
UNIQUE, SOLAR-POWERED GREETING CARDS
Independent Power was contracted by Bloomin, the leading manufacturer of and world’s foremost authority on seed paper cards, to install a 29.61 kW commercial solar power center on the roof of its production facility in Boulder, Colorado. Bloomin seed paper is biodegradable and grows into wildflowers and other plants, making it a unique and sustainable medium for wedding invitations, greeting cards, social stationery, or other promotions.
The system consists of 141 Kyocera KD 210 GX-LP solar panels and three SMA SB7000US solar inverters, and is estimated to generate over 42,000 kWh of solar energy annually. The solar panels will completely offset the facility’s energy consumption, allowing Bloomin to “walk the walk” when it comes to sustainability in their production. This system was able to qualify for generous solar incentives including the Xcel Solar Rewards Rebate and the Federal Solar Tax Credit.
“MOST OF THE PEOPLE WHO ARE USING OUR PRODUCT ARE USING IT TO COMMUNICATE THEIR OWN ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVES. WE WANT TO BE AT THE FOREFRONT OF WHAT WE CAN BE DOING, NOT ONLY FROM OUR OWN MARKETING PERSPECTIVE BUT JUST WALKING THE WALK AND ACTUALLY BEING AS GREEN AS WE POSSIBLY CAN. WE’RE TRYING TO COMMUNICATE AND RUN OUR BUSINESS IN THE MOST RESPONSIBLE WAY WE CAN.”
