Design Consultation
Next, you’ll be connected with either Luke, Adam, Avery, Noah, or Adam, our design team experts. They listen to your needs, expectations, and budget and devise a custom plan to update your home.

Introduction to your Project Manager
Once you’ve decided to work with our team, Bobby and your Project Manager will be in touch. Bobby will come out for a site audit and your Project Manager will introduce her/himself and guide you on next steps. This entails design work and permit approvals.

Professional Installation
It’s go time! Typically, within 3 months, our professional install team will make an appointment with you to come to your home and install your system. You will have received all the information in advance on what to expect on install day so there are no surprises.

What information do you need from me to get started?
We don’t need much to be able to run a quote:
Solar – Your home address and past utility bill payments
Battery Storage – We’ll want to understand if you’re interested in whole home or critical load backups. And what your typical energy use is.
Heat Pumps – Do you have a current ducted system or would mini-splits be a better option? We’ll want to come to your home to do an audit of your thermal envelope.

What does the process look like if I decide to work with you?
Once you agree to work with us, our team gets to work behind the scenes to have your project ready as quickly as possible. The time frame for each project is different. Solar projects, on average, take 3 months from start to finish. Battery and heat pump projects take 4 – 6 weeks to complete.
Your assigned project manager will contact you throughout the process to keep you updated and answer any questions you may have.

Since 1996, Independent Power has completed hundreds of solar, battery backup, and heat pump installations—starting in Bozeman, MT, as Independent Power Systems and expanding to Boulder, CO, in 2008. When you choose us, you work directly with the Independent Power team from start to finish. We handle every aspect of your project in-house—no subcontractors, ensuring quality every step of the way.
Do I need to make a decision right away?
Not at all! This is a big decision, and we want to be sure you have all the answers you need to move forward with your project. You may need time to research the products we offer for solar, battery storage, and heat pumps. It’s important to check out reviews from our customers. In 2022, Independent Power, founded in 1996, came under new leadership with Liz and Trevor, both CU graduates, passionate about building a cleaner future for their five children. They expanded Independent Power’s services by acquiring Windward Electric, Boulder’s top-rated electricians. In 2023, they added HVAC expertise to install electric heat pumps, enabling Independent Power to help homeowners achieve completely pollution-free homes, free of burning gas & oil. Liz and Trevor envision the company as a cornerstone for energy independence.
